What Are CBC Blood Tests?

by Robert McMackey

A commonly prescribed medical test used today to decipher if you are ill, experiencing trouble, if you aren't sick at all or to better pinpoint a current complaint or medical finding is a blood test known as a Complete Blood Count Test, or more commonly, CBC, the acronym.

Humans couldn't exist without blood flowing head to toes within our bodies. It, makes perfect sense it is one of the first tests ordered when figuring out diagnosis. A CBC blood test is often requested by doctors in television dramas these days, but in reality, it is a vital step in understanding what is right and what is not right with you, at least, on the inside.

CBC blood tests may be ordered by your doctor simply when you are not feeling well, always tired, or even if you simply have a common cold. You don't have to be in the jaws of death, nor lying in an emergency room bay to have a CBC blood testCBC blood test ordered.

Next time you have an appointment with your doctor, physician or alternative practitioner for your 12 Month physical, if your physician does not order a CBC Blood Test, by all means, ask for one. It is the cheapest, 'no brainer', maybe even life-saving act you can do and should do at least once a year.

Your complete blood count test is a representation of your internal (which fuels your exterior) health and if there is something to worry about, odds are, warning signs will be found within your blood and its components. Not always, but more often enough. A number of determining factors are researched with CBC Blood Tests: white and red blood cell counts or levels, the HCT (or Hematocrit, which basically determines the volume of space which your blood takes up), Hgb (or Hemoglobin which accounts for the oxygen within your blood cells), and platelet counts which determines your blood's ability to clot.

Too many or too few of another element of your blood, depending on what numbers reveal themselves can be a warning that reveals to your medical staff what is really going on. While the diagnosis variables can be numerous and cover a wide spectrum, having your CBC Blood Test at least per year, after visiting your doctor can provide you answers to most questions about your internal and external health, that physical touch, putting a stethascope to your chest, checking your lungs and opening your mouth and saying, 'Ahhhh,' just can't do.

A CBC (Complete Blood Count) Test (or Tests) can provide you specific answers to why you are fatigued, not feeling 'normal', showing bruising for 'no reason', having chest discomfort, have a virus, are having adverse reactions, plus a mountain of other possibilities. But, perhaps even more important, these blood tests allow you the potentially life-saving, longevity stretching benefit of detecting early warning signs of perhaps debilitating and life threatening trouble if ignored. Write this down now for you and your family to regularly (at least once a year) take part in a CBC Blood Test or Complete Blood Count Tests. Sure, may spare your life and theirs, but even if nothing is seriously abnormal, it is a simple way to increase the quality of your current lifestyle.

Finding tell it to you straight and healthy insight about the healthy living you want to adopt, is not 'brain surgery'. No matter your interest: from healthy eating on a family budget to what foods to eat to boost energy and shed pounds, you name it. Deciding to have a healthy life need not be frustrating, or at all life altering if you do not want it to be, nor must you have to forgo all the flavors, living like a rock star lifestyle and adventure you now appreciate as is often the myth.
